In my 3 years here, I've called IBM repeatedly. This wasn't just a one time call nor did I stand still. I started a user group among the state agencies. I reorganized the state email subcommittee. My colleague and I have been doing internal evangelization every chance we get. I've been carrying and waving the flag every chance I get.
But where has the extensive help from IBM been? It hasn't come to me ... I'm the guy working my ass off to make their product look great, improve their market share and they know it.
It has only in the past 6 to 9 months or so that I have had a dedicated Lotus sales resource. Honestly, the work he has put in has been great. I talk with him just about every week. He does a great job BUT ... why didn't I have him sooner? Why did he come in after the fact? Why hasn't IBM been hungrier to get the ND message out after the whole Workplace debacle? Why hasn't IBM dropped support for all Exchange related products .. last time I checked MS doesn't have any products that support Domino ... unless of course it is to move off Domino! Internal IBM support of Domino would really be fab!
Not for nothing, but as soon as IBM saw the backlash and decided Workplace was a mistake, they should have gone to every contact they have and pushed ND. They should have done national TV spots ... Hell, they could even use the Genesis song "Domino" in a spot ..
Were this an isolated incedent, I'd say OK it happens. But it is not. EVERY Business Partner has a story of an IBM client who migrated to a technically inferior product, Exchange, because IBM had that client listed as OK. If they weren't, IBM Sales were fine because they'd try to sell them a product that would work with Exchange and they'd still make their numbers.
Lastly, for now, why do we, the customers and business partners, have to be the advertising and marketing arm of the world's largest IT company when we don't even get proper support from IBM? That is the point of this thread.
